If you're thinking about leaving Websyt for good, here's what you need to know about what happens to your website and content.
Your domain
As outlined in Domain Renewal & Ownership, once your subscription ends we will give you the option to release and transfer your domain to you, so you keep ownership of it.
Your website content
This is the part that's important to understand clearly: your website itself, its design, build, and the way it's put together isn't something we're able to hand over or transfer.
This is because the website is built using our own design work, templates, and technical setup, which remains ours under our terms of service. When your subscription ends, we're not able to provide a copy of the site, its underlying code, or help migrate it to another provider.
In practice, this means that if you move on from Websyt, you'd be starting fresh with a new site elsewhere, rather than taking your existing one with you. We know that's a significant thing to plan around, which is exactly why we wanted to be upfront about it here rather than have it come as a surprise.
Worth knowing before you decide
If there's something about your current site or plan that isn't working for you, it's always worth a conversation with our support team first.
